Where to Find Free Images For Blogs and Social Media

Where to Find Free Images HeaderImage

You’ve just finished crafting the perfect blog post, but you know that images are key to making your content pop. No problem: just run to Google and find a picture, right? Wrong.

Repeat after me: Google images are not free to use. Google images are not free to use.

Many business owners fall into this trap and find themselves at the end of a costly copyright lawsuit. Yes – most of the images on Google images (and most of the images on the web in general) are protected by copyright. Google images is designed to show you what you’re looking for, not to be a resource for usable photos. In order to use photos you find online on your site without paying, they MUST be licensed under a CC0 Creative Commons license.

Now that I’ve firmly beaten that into the ground and we all know not to go Google to find images, where can you go? If you find yourself needing a lot of images on a regular basis, you might want to consider a subscription to Shutterstock. But for the average business owner who only needs the occasional photo, there are a number of websites that offer free photos.

Pexels

Pexels hosts thousands of free stock photos, uploaded directly by photographers.

Unsplash has over 300,000 free high-resolution photos that you can use on your website, blog and social media pages. With a free account, you can also add photos to your “collection” to use later and follow specific photographers to be notified when they upload new photos.

StockSnap.io

stocksnap.io

StockSnap.io curates thousands of images from across the web, all licensed under a CC0 license. StockSnap.io will also show you a selection of purchasable photos whenever you search, so you have more options if you can’t find exactly what you need for free.

SplitShire

SplitShire photos are specifically designed for commercial use for designers, bloggers, website creators, social marketing gurus and companies.

Kaboompics

Kaboompics offers more just free stock photos. Their photos are also organized into collections designed with users in mind – a majority of their photos link to a photoshoot gallery so you can find the perfect angle and shot. They also curate photos around different color pallets for visual appeal.

Now that you have your images, go forth and blog!
